Las Vegas is known for its (I finally learned the difference between its and it's) neon lights and casinos. At least this was the case for me. I came here thinking that all it was is a city full of casinos and never-ending nightlife. While this is true to some extent, Las Vegas has so much more to offer as I've been finding out. In its (again with the proper use!) backyard is a natural playground that is not easily matched. Red Rock Canyon is probably about 20 minutes away and I can already tell that its going to be one of my favorite places to visit. Great hiking, what looks like amazing climbing and a breathtaking view. I already can't wait to go back!
When I found out that I was getting an opportunity to go to Nicaragua, I knew that one thing I wanted to try was volcano boarding (also known as ash boarding). CNN had an article back in 2011 titled Thrill Seeker's Bucket List: 50 Experiences to Try Before You Die where volcano boarding was ranked 2nd. So clearly this was an opportunity I could not miss.
So what exactly does volcano boarding entail? We hiked up the volcano Cerro Negro, the youngest volcano in Central America near León, Nicaragua. As fun as the actual boarding was, the hike was something else. It was unlike anything I've ever done and if you ever find yourself in Nicaragua, I highly recommend it!
Some pictures from a great time hiking at Minnewaska State Park.
The other day I had the joy of hanging out with my youth group since most of them had spring break. We decided to hike Bear Mountain and it was awesome. I loved every moment of it. It was so much fun and the weather was great. It took us a little while but we eventually made it to the top and the view was so worth it! I can't wait to do it again! Next time it'll be something a bit bigger....mmm...maybe the Rockies? :)
